Adobe Acrobat is a program published by Adobe to read, create, and edit Portable Document Format (PDF) files. PDF files were developed by Adobe to be a file type that is not only more secure than a typical document but also would appear the same on any platform or screen. Acrobat can be purchased from DECS. There is also a free version of Acrobat called Adobe Reader that can only read PDF files.

Thunderbird has many features that make it easier and more convenient to use including message tagging and advanced search and view options. Thunderbird also comes with many security features to protect your privacy and your computer. Thunderbird is available on all of the DECS lab computers and can also be install on your computer by the DECS Support Office free of charge.

Procmail is a program available on the Engineering E-mail server that allows simple or sophisticated E-mail filtering without the need to setup E-mail filters in every separate E-mail client. Procmail can be used to filter specific senders or mailing lists to a mail folder, or even directly to Trash or be deleted immediately. Procmail can be used to automatically filter E-mail on the server side for the benefit of E-mail clients that do not contain their own filtering solution, or to provide consistent filtering no matter what E-mail client is used.
