Installation:
Mozilla Thunderbird is installed on all of the DECS Public Lab Windows machines.
To install Mozilla Thunderbird, first download the installer file from here.
Run the downloaded installer, and click "Next". (image)
Unselect any shortcut locations you do not want and click "Next". (image)
Select the location you wish to install to and click "Install". (image)
Click "Finish" and the installation is complete. (image)
Setup:
If this is the first time Thunderbird has been run:
Launch Mozilla Thunderbird. "Start" → "All Programs" → "Mozilla Thunderbird".
A box appears with list of options, leave "Email" and "Always perform this check..." checked if you want Thunderbird set up as your default mail client. Click "OK" (image)
Fill in the form with your Name, full email address, and password. Click "Continue"
Thunderbird should work out the details of the account, when finished, click "Create Account" (image) --If configuration of the account fails, please refer below for more troubleshooting.
If you want to add a new or additional email account into Thunderbird:
Launch Mozilla Thunderbird. "Start" → "All Programs" → "Mozilla Thunderbird".
Goto "Tools" → "Account Settings".
In "Account Settings" click on "Account Actions" → "Add Mail Account". (image)
Fill in the form with your Name, full email address, and password. Click "Continue"
Thunderbird should work out the details of the account. When finished click "Create Account" (image) --If configuration of the account fails, please refer below for more trouble shooting.
If the auto configuration of Thunderbird fails, see the following:
**NOTE** These specific configuration settings are for egr.msu.edu addresses only.
In "Account Settings" click on "Add Account"(image)
Fill in the information on the form and click "Next"
Next, go to "Account Settings" in the Tools menu. Click on "Server Settings" under the account, then select the "SSL" radio button in the Security Settings box and check "Clean up ("Expunge") Inbox on Exit" in the Server Settings box. (image)
In "Account Settings" click on "Outgoing Server" then select your engineering account and then click "Edit". Select "TLS" and "Use name and password". Then, change the "Port:" field from 25 to 587. For the "User Name" type in your EGR NetID and then click "Ok". (image)
** Note ** Enter only your user name WITHOUT "@egr.msu.edu".
Additional Configuration:
Folder Subscriptions
From within Mozilla Thunderbird, click "File" then "Subscribe..." (image)
Choose the folder that you wish to subscribe to (eg. "Spam") and click "Subscribe" or check the box next to the folder. (image)
