Enable SpamAssassin on Your EGR Account

What is SpamAssassin?

SpamAssassin is an e-mail filter, written in Perl, to identify spam using a wide range of heuristic tests on e-mail headers and body text.

Why use SpamAssassin?

Users find that enabling SpamAssassin greatly reduces the amount of spam present within their EGR Inbox. Users should also be sure to check their "Spam" and "Spam-last-week" e-mail folders for any false positives. Anytime a false positive (a message that was marked incorrectly as spam) is found it should be forwarded with full headers to abuse@egr.msu.edu.

How to Enable or Disable SpamAssassin

NOTE: If you are currently using the old mail server, you will need to be migrated to the new one. Please contact DECS for assistance.

1. Using your EGR username and password, log in here (the My Account page of the DECS website) to enable/disable SpamAssassin.

2. Click  E-Mail Spam Filtering in the menu under Account.

3. The page will display a message with your spam filter status.

4. To change the status, click in the checkbox next to Enable Spam Filtering and then click Save Filter.
