The following is additional information on files which can be safely removed.
Files in .netscape/cache directory
Your ~/.netscape/cache is a collection of files that Netscape saves temporarily. The web pages containing this data can be accessed quickly since the web browser pulls the information from the local machine (or account), rather than accessing the data from the remote host. Many of the machines maintained by DECS have fast Internet connections making a cache directory unnecessary. Your ~/.netscape/cache directory can get quite full based on how often you use Netscape. Consequently, it is a good idea to delete it on occasion. Note: If you decide not to use a cache, click on 'Options' 'Network Preferences' 'Cache' and enter a 0 for the Disk cache.
Using vlink color, your ~/.netscape/history.db file indicates previously accessed URLs or files you've accessed before, by making them a different color. Based on how often you use Netscape, this file can become rather large. This file can be deleted through Netscape by clicking on 'Options' 'General Preferences' 'Appearance' and by clicking on the button entitled 'Expire Now'.
If you are not currently running Netscape, the following file can be deleted: ~/.netscape/lock. This file is used to determine if the browser is currently running.
Files in ~/.mozilla/default/*.slt/Cache directory
Your ~/.mozilla/default/*.slt/cache is a collection of files that Mozilla saves temporarily. Web pages containing this data can be accessed quickly since the web browser pulls the information from the local machine (or account in this case), rather than from the remote host. Many of the machines maintained by DECS have fast internet connections making a cache directory unnecessary. Your ~/.mozilla/default/*.slt/cache directory can get quite full based on how often you use Mozilla. Consequently, it is a good idea to delete it on occasion.
Note: If you decide not to use a cache, click on 'Options' 'Network Preferences' 'Cache' and by typing a 0 for the Disk cache.

Directories in the form of 'username-machinename-0' can be removed.
Files of the form 'error#.out' (with # representing any number) are error files created by certain pieces of software. Although they are helpful in determining the causes of software difficulties, they should be deleted after the problem has been fixed.
~/dead.letter and ~/dead_letter directories
~/dead.letter files can be deleted. These are e-mail messages which were not sent.
~/dead_letter directories can be deleted. They contain one or more e-mail messages that for one reason or another were aborted and were not sent.
Files of the form '#filename#' are usually files that are currently being edited. These files are sometimes left behind when closed improperly, editors lock up, or when they are unneeded.
