Enable Auto-Updating on Symantec AntiVirus
Anti-virus software can be used to identify, impede, and eliminate computer viruses and other malicious software using two approaches: scanning files to look for known viruses, and recognizing suspicious behavior through real-time auto-protect.
Windows machines installed by DECS are configured to use the auto-updating. This is set to run once daily at 7:00am. In addition, users are able to run LiveUpdate to manually update the definitions.
Below are steps for enabling Auto-update on Symantec Anti-virus. These steps should be similar for most anti-virus products. If you need assistance with using your specific anti-virus scanner, please contact us at support@egr.msu.edu.

Steps to enable auto-updating
Please log in with an account which has administrative access so that the update to be installed
- Open Symantec Anti-Virus.
- Select "File"=> "Schedule Updates..."
- Select checkbox "Enable Scheduled automatic updates" to enable.
- Click "Ok" to close the window or you can edit your schedule of when you want to update by clicking on the "Schedule..." tab.
