You must run an X Windows client like Xming or XWin on your local machine before connecting to a server.
After you connect to scully.egr.msu.edu via SSH use the command computeuse to view the available compute servers and their loads. SSH with X11 forwarding to the compute server of your choice.
Set your environment variables on the compute server by typing source $SOFT/cadence. If you are using Cadence for a class you may want to use source $SOFT/cadence-auto to include special libraries used in engineering courses.
The popular circuit design and CAD tool Virtuoso can be started with the command "virtuoso". It is helpful to use "virtuoso &" if you want to detach the process from the terminal.
