Full-Time Employee Positions


INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIST — MSU College of Engineering is seeking a systems and programming professional. The job requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business, or a related information technology field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in operating and information systems; UNIX, LINUX, Windows, BSD, Apple OSX; experience implementing and enforcing security practices and policies; experience with authentication methods and practices, network and system hardware and integration; experience with distributed services and resources; systems and application programming experience in PHP, Perl, UNIX/LINUX/Win scripting; administrative/production experience with Active Directory, Kerberos, LDAP, SharePoint, Zimbra and terminal services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

In summary, the incumbent will provide network, desktop, mobile, and remote administrative support for the technology infrastructure (servers, resources, and users) in the College of Engineering; will organize, plan, and participate in the development and support of evolving information systems; provides quick and simple solutions in a complex environment; will migrate and/or coordinate the migration of application systems from test to quality assured production environments; researches, plans, and evaluates current/future operating system technologies; maintains current large scale installation of heterogeneous workstations and servers; prepares for and implements major OS upgrades; performance monitoring and tuning; advises and assists researchers on security issues/procedures and implements security measures for research, specialized labs, and travel.

This is an off-date position funded for one year from date of hire.

Student Employee Positions


IT Support Student (01/2012)

The Division of Engineering Computing Services (DECS) is looking for highly-motivated students to help run our Support Office.  Applicants must be reliable, willing to work independently and in a group environment, and possess favorable communication skills. Students must be willing to work 15-20 hours per week during the semester.

Job requirements include:

  • prior computer troubleshooting experience
  • proficiency in Windows XP/Vista/7 and PC hardware is required
  • experience with Mac OSX, Linux/UNIX, and computer networking
  • familiarity with digital/printed media production and creation

Job duties and responsibilities include:

  • installing and troubleshooting computers, peripheral hardware, printers, software, and network equipment
  • staffing the user help desk
  • answering phones
  • poster printing and lamination
