Dr. Lawrence T. Drzal (at left) and
Dr. Martin C. Hawley (at right) are the Co-Directors of the
Center. Professor Drzal is a Faculty member in the Chemical
Engineering Department and the Department of Material Science &
Mechanics and is the Director of the Composite Materials and
Structures Center. Professor Hawley has been a Faculty member in the
Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan State University for 33
years.
Industrial Advisory Board
The Industrial
Advisory Board (IAB) is the formal forum for interaction between the
University and Industry. The IAB consists of representatives from each
of the industrial sponsors as well as representatives from
participating institutions. As a member of the Center each company,
large and small, has an IAB representative with an equal voting right
on all Center activities. A list of participating companies and
institutions is included in at the end of this document. The IAB
interacts with Center researchers to:
- Define
research thrusts
- Monitor technical projects
-
Act as conduits for information
flow between researchers and companies
- Review Center operation.
Technology Transfer
The Center
Technology Transfer Office facilitates the communication and
information flow between research investigators, the University, and
member organizations and companies. The Center utilizes feedback from
white papers, prospectuses, preliminary market studies, and researcher
interactions for definition of potential non-core or applied
opportunities. The Center evaluates the results of core projects by
performing business and technical feasibility studies and market
assessments. Positive results from these studies and financial
interest from member companies assist with establishing non-core
projects and help to transfer the technology to industry. The Center
Technology Transfer Office interacts with other Michigan institutions
that have targeted the composites market for transferring technology:
Industrial Technology Institute (ITI),
Michigan Materials and Processing
Institute (MMPI),
Advanced Materials Engineering Experiment Station (AMEES)
as well as other Michigan Universities.
