Advisors
1.Before the end of the 3rd class week : Visit the site or plant of the industrial sponsor with your group when they make their first off-campus presentation and discuss their First Interim Report. The focus of this meeting is the refinement of the design specification and the development of an in-depth appreciation of the design problem. This phase shall possibly require iteration.
2. Before the end of the 5th class week: Grade and return the First Interim Report.
3. Before mid-term: Review the project synopsis for inclusion in the Student Design Conference brochure and also the photographs. The Industrial Advisor must approve the wording of this synopsis to prevent the dissemination of sensitive information. This synopsis should be submitted to Professor Thompson. A set of three photographs is also required at this time. A paragraph describing the importance of the project to the company and written by the Industrial Advisor is also required.
4. Typically by mid-term: Attend the second presentation at the plant of the Industrial Sponsor. At this meeting the conceptual designs shall be reviewed and decisions made concerning the product design phase.
5. Typically by the end of the 8th class week: Grade and return the Second Interim Report.
6. Last day of classes: Attend the entire Student Design Conference. Evaluate the oral presentation(s) of your teams and the poster(s) included in the Poster Session; assist with the organization of the ME481 presentation session, by ensuring that your team starts and ends on time; present a plaque of recognition to the Industrial Sponsor.
