Working ModelME 471 PROJECT – Spring Semester 2005
SOFTWARE SUMMARYWorking Model is a motion simulation program that allows a user to design a set of rigid bodies, to set any forces and constraints needed (motors, springs, dampers, joints, etc), view the two-dimensional model in motion, and report user defined outputs of the simulation.
SOFTWARE AVAILABILITYWorking Model is available only in IPL (EB1252). The Working Model User’s Manual is also available in IPL and can be signed out from the Design TA.
PROJECT GUIDELINESThis is an exercise to become familiar with using this software and appreciate its abilities. This will be accomplished by generating a simulation of a simple vehicle’s suspension system and a test track. Constraints on the vehicle design are as follows:
The track shall meet the following guidelines: Three bumps equally spaced at 1.5 m which are 0.2 m high and have an inclination of 45 degrees (+/- 15 degrees).
The report for this project should include all assumptions and specifications that were made in regards to the design of the vehicle and test track, the maximum angular and vertical displacement of your vehicle, the procedure used to generate your vehicle, and a electronic copy of your *.wm model (upload it on \\samba\dfs\courses\group\me471\ group_no) with pre-made charts of the specified quantities. This report should have all the components of a professional report except an abstract. It shall be no less than 2 full pages in length (double spaced with pictures) and shall not exceed 5 full pages.
This is a MANDATORY group project (work together with your design group). The report must be submitted by Friday February 25 by 5pm (please hand it to the TA or put it in Bhushan Ekbote’s mail box). If you have any questions pertaining to this project or the report, please contact the Design TA.
