Project Abstract

The field-deployable isotope mass spectrometer (FIMS) is intended to be use to monitor local environmental conditions.  As such it must be portable and able to withstand severe weather conditions.  A key component of the FIMS is the Trace Gas Sample Introduction System (TGSIS).  There are several components to the TGSIS that will need to be designed by the student team including: Sample Reservoir, Chemical Traps, Cryo-traps, Gas Flow Valves and Regulators, Heater Controls and GC Oven, Nafion Water Trap, Helium Reservoir, and Dual Reference Gas System.
