ECE 480 Laboratory Access Policy and Acknowledgement

The ECE Capstone Lab (EB 2221 and the adjacent lab) is normally unlocked M-F, 8am-5pm. Access is restricted for two reasons: 1) concern for safety -- during other hours, a student might be working unsupervised, without another student present, and have a problem requiring urgent assistance, with no one aware of the problem, and 2) the laboratory contains much valuable equipment that would be attractive to thieves, and having many people with access to the lab during hours the building is relatively poorly populated increases the risk of loss.

However, the department has agreed that, subject to the conditions below, we may provide you with combinations to the key-code lock on EB2221. Each team will have its own code. Every person on the team must sign this sheet before the code will be given to anyone on the team.

SAFETY GLASSES

Further, I understand that wearing of protective eyewear (safety glasses or plastic/hardened corrective glasses) is required at all times in the lab, and that I will have to leave the lab if I arrive without protective eyewear.

Conditions:

I agree that:

1. I will NOT at any time work alone in the laboratory outside the laboratory's normal open hours, as shown above. If I am in the lab with only one other person, and that person leaves, even to go to the bathroom, I will also leave the lab at that time. I may re-enter the lab only when another person is available to be in the lab with me.
2. I understand that, if a faculty member, graduate assistant, or staff member EVER finds me alone in the lab, outside the time period 8am-5pm M-F (when the lab is officially open), my entire team will be denied after-hours access to the lab for the remainder of the semester. I personally will receive a 0.0 for the laboratory portion of my grade for the semester.
3. When I am one of the last two people to leave the lab "after hours," I will be certain that both doors are securely locked.
4. Whenever in the lab, I will follow all of the guidelines already distributed regarding safety in the lab.
