Modeling Capacity Impacts of Mid-block Traffic Sinks and Sources

Sample result: Change in system capacity with sink and source volumes. HCM’s current procedure is insensitive to sink and source traffic.
Abstract
The purpose of this project is to develop models to quantify the capacity impact of midblock traffic of sinks and sources. Midblock sink and source traffic can reduce capacity of signalized links. Current methods consider only traffic at signalized intersections on the two ends of a link--but not midblock traffic such as that of sinks and sources.
