East Lansing, MI 48824

Phone: (517) 355-5107
E-Mail: saul@egr.msu.edu

Courses Taught:

  • Structural Analysis
  • Structural Mechanics
  • Structural Dynamics

Recent Research:

  • Loads Due to human Movements on Assembly Structures, National Science Foundation.
  • Dynamic loads produced by Occupants of Public Assembly Structures, National Science Foundation.
  • Dynamic Analysis of Ship-Mounted Construction Cranes Subject to Random Seas, U.S. Navy.

Interests:

Dr. Saul’s interests are in structural dynamics including wind and earthquake engineering, human loads, simulation, and computer methods. At present he is investigating the dynamic loads due to human actions and working to provide time-dependent models for individuals in crowd activities, such as at a stadium.

Education:

Northwestern University: Ph.D., Structures

Selected Publications:

  • Loads Due to Spectator Movements, with C.Y. Tuan, Journal of the Structural Division, ASCE, v.111, n.2, February, 1985.
  • Response to Stochastic Wind of N- Degree Tall Buildings, with P. Jayachandran and A.H. Peyrot, Journal of the Structural Division, ASCE, v.102, n.ST5, May, 1976.
  • Static and Dynamic Analysis of Pile Foundations, Journal of the Structural Division, ASCE, v.94, n.ST5, May, 1968.
