Assistant Professor

Civil and Environmental Engineering
3573 Engineering Building
East Lansing, MI 48824

Phone: (517) 432-0180
E-Mail: elvin@egr.msu.edu

Courses Taught:

  • Structural Analysis and Design

Recent Research:

  • Low-Power Sensors for Infrastructure
  • Wireless Sensor Networks
  • Self-Powered Sensors
  • Adaptive and Smart Materials
  • Non-Destructive Evaluation

Interests:

Dr. Elvin's research interests lie in the field of low-power civil engineering sensors - specifically in the field of damage and condition monitoring of infrastructure. Novel low-powered wireless sensors and sensor networks are currently being developed in our lab. The goal of our research is to create a wireless sensor network that will be completely self-powered - that is be able to convert environmental energy sources such as vibration, heat and strain into useful electrical energy.

Education:

Massachusetts Institute of Technology: Ph.D., Civil Engineering
