MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY BAJA – SETTING THE BAR
2008 SAE World Congress
Cobo Hall, Detroit
3rd Place
The Michigan State University Baja SAE Racing Team was featured this past week at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2008 World Congress at Detroit’s Cobo Hall. The MSU team took 3rd place honors and a cash prize of $600 for their presentation incorporating this year’s theme of, “A Climate for a Change.” The team representatives and presenters included Emily Duszynski, Ken Maisonville, and Josh Thomet. Their presentation included the team’s project objectives, design processes, and team-work. A design, build and test evaluation of the vehicle was presented providing technical data and validation for the team’s design. Stories of triumph, hardship, and pride were also given to demonstrate teamwork and passion for both baja racing and MSU.
Even with the team’s recent success of winning 4th place in the World SAE Baja Championship, the team was honored by their award in the Motor City. Next week, the team leaves Michigan to attend the Tennessee Technological University SAE Baja water competition, the first of the season. The event will include academic competition and a race that boasts both land and amphibious obstacles. For more information, explore the MSU team’s website for race updates and future events.
