Associate Dean of Engineering Research and Graduate Studies
Michigan State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Engineering with a starting date of July 1, 2008. Candidates must have an earned doctorate and a distinguished record of scholarship and research to qualify for a tenured professorial position in one of the departments in the College. This is an annual appointment.
The Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies will:
- Be an integral part of the Dean’s management team and assist with strategic planning and implementation
- Work closely with Department Chairs to implement the research and graduate studies programs in the College
- Facilitate and develop faculty research by supervising grant preparation activities, monitoring research activity, helping faculty to capitalize on opportunities in research funding and fostering collaborations within and outside the College
- Encourage and facilitate the creation and development of intellectual property
- Coordinate faculty research support from internal sources (start up, matches, cost share, various MSU competitions)
- Be responsible for all graduate curricular matters, including courses, degree programs, recruitment, retention, and fellowships; interface for graduate student program data collection between the departments and the University
- Be responsible for space and facilities, their maintenance, renovation, funding and coordination among units
- Assure that appropriate mentoring programs for faculty at all levels are implemented
