David Lehnert
2009-2010 Vice President, Professional
I am the 2009-2010
VP Professional for the school year. This will be my second year as an
AIChE officer. Last year, I was a symposium day co-chair with former
members Chad Rogers and Kissy Dell.
I graduated
high school in 2004 from Portland High School which is about 30 miles
from MSU. My first year in college was at Ferris State University in
Big Rapids Michigan. There, I studied chemistry technology and transferred
to MSU the following year. I transferred here because the chemistry program
at Michigan State is more competitive and the campus is closer to home.
My major later changed to chemical engineering because of its chemistry
based applications and marketability after graduation.
By studying
chemical engineering, I was fortunate enough to intern from a variety
of fields in the industry. These internships included research on bio-fuel
cells under the supervision of Dr. Barton for the Department of Chemical
Engineering and Material Science at MSU, process engineering research
and development for Freeport McMoran in Sahuarita Arizona, and fuel
cell thermo cooling systems research for NASA in Cleveland Ohio.
Being a board
member of AIChE is a great experience. It gives you the opportunity
to help the student community as well as network with representatives
from a variety of companies. I highly recommend it for any chemical
engineering student
