Amy Aramzcyk Amy Abramczyk

 2009-2010 Community Service Chair

My name is Amy Abramczyk and I'm the community service chair this year.  This is my second year on the board, last year I was the sophomore representative.  I'm from Lake Orion, Michigan and am a junior in chemical engineering.

When I came to MSU, like a lot of people, I didn't really know what I wanted to study.  I did know, however, that I liked math and science.  That eventually led me to engineering and here I am.  I think that chemical engineering is great because there are so many different things you can do with the degree.

This past summer I spent three months in Madrid, Spain, through MSU's internships in Madrid program.  There I worked at Planta Pilota de Química Fina, which is a pilot plant that works with pharmaceuticals.  A pilot plant is basically the step in between the person who discovers the product and the factories that produce it.  As they liked  to tell me, if you go straight from the beaker to a factory, things tend to blow up.  So we worked to scale up the processes.  It was a great experience because not only was I exposed to engineering in "the real world" but also to a new culture and language.

I also work in a research lab on campus and think that research is another great way to apply what I've been learning in the class room and put it to good use.

If you have any questions about chemical engineering, study abroad, research, or life in general definitely send me an e-mail, abramcz6@msu.edu.
