Dr Truman Surbrook, Ph.D., P.E., a 38 year teaching veteran of the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering was the winner of the 2007-2008 Withrow Teaching Excellence Award. He is praised by his students for his ability to make difficult concepts easy. He is a singularly dedicated professor with a desire for students to succeed. |

Dawn Reinhold, assistant professor, (Jan., 2008) received her doctorate in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007 . She joined BAE in Jan.2008. Her research focuses on understanding the removal processes in plant-based systems, particularly with regards to trace organic pollutants like personal care products, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. |

Christopher Saffron, assistant professor (Aug., 2007) received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Material Science in 2005 from MSU. He has a joint appointment with BAE and the Department of Forestry. Previously, Dr. Saffron was an engineer and project manager with MBI International in Lansing. His research interest in the thermochemical conversion of biomass to fuels and chemicals and economic model development for combined thermochemical and biochemical refineries. |

Wei Liao, assistant professor (Aug., 1007), received his Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering from Washington State University. His research interests are biological pretreatment of lignocellulosic materials such as straws, corn stover, wood residues etc. to produce mon-sugars. and high density enzymatic hydroloysis of lignocellulosic materials to enchance sugar yield and sugar concentration. |

Yan (Susie) Liu ,assistant profressor (Aug., 2007) received her Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering from Washington State University. Her research interests are integrated agricultural waste management, anaerobic digestion systems to convert animla and food wastes to renewable enrey and other value-added products, She was a research Assocation in the Dept. of Biological systems Engineering at Washington State University. |
