The USDA CSRESS awarded $500,000 to the team of Dr. Brad Marks, Dr. Alden Booren and Dr. Elliot Ryser for their proposed project entitled "OPTIMIZING THE DESIGN AND OPERATION OF COMMERCIAL COOKING SYSTEMS FOR READY TO EAT MEAT AND POULTRY PRODUCTS" The USDA CSREES awarded $290,000 to the team of Dr. Brad Marks, Dr. Alden Booren, Dr. Alicia Orta-Ramirez and Dr. Elliot Ryser for their proposed project entitled "MODELING PATHOGEN MIGRATIONS AND THERMAL RESISTANCE IN MARINATED WHOLE MUSCLE MEAT AND POULTRY PRODUCTS".
The USDA CSREES awarded $90,000 to Dr. Evangelyn Alocilja for her proposed project entitled " CONDUCTOMETRIC BIOSENSOR FOR FOODBORNE PATHOGEN DETECTION IN FRESH PRODUCE".
John B. Gerrish, Ph.D., P.E. and Professor (Dr. John to many) will retire from MSU at the end of December. The Department of Agricultural Engineering will be celebrating his retirement on Friday, December 5, 2003. We honor him and wish him well in the future. Thank you Dr. Gerrish for your outstanding contribution to the Department. You will be missed!
Yao Lu, a senior at Okemos High School, was selected as a semifinalist for her research paper entitled "Porous silicon-based biosensor for detection of Salmonella" submitted to the 2003 Siemens Westinghouse Competition for Math, Science and Technology. Yao Lu performed her research under the guidance of Dr. Evangelyn Alocilja and her graduate student, Finny Mathew, during the summer of 2003. Congratulations Yao Lu!
