Biosystems engineering undergraduate students Gail Bornhorst,
Tara Franey, Amy Hendricks, Andrew Knowles, Shannon McGraw and Matthew
Nelson were among nearly 100 students presenting at the seventh
annual University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF) on April
8, 2005 with Andrew Knowles, Amy Hendricks and Gail Bornhorst
winning Merit Awards.
The forum is a skill-building opportunity that prepares students for
careers that require research and creative skills, and for graduate
or professional schools.
“The forum provides students with the opportunity to experience
presenting research,” said graduate assistant and forum organizer
Melissa Fraser. “It gives students an opportunity to showcase
their hard work within their field.”
Students’ presentations were judged based on the clarity, consistency
of research, time investment and professionalism of their projects.
First-place winners receive $100, and merit award recipients receive
$50.
“We have had a lot of positive support from past participants,”
said Fraser. “These students are now in graduate school and say
how helpful the forum was in preparation to presenting work at research
conferences.”
