2004 Biosystems Engineering Design Projects
Quarter Scale Tractor Design

Left to right: Mark DeKleine, Christopher Prone, James Bosserd, and Aaron Kaeb

This design team will compete, along with more than 30 other university teams, in the intercollegiate 1/4 Scale Tractor Competition sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. The contest requires that the team address not only the performance, durability, and economic aspects of vehicle design, but also the ergonomic, safety, and aesthetic aspects.

The team has taken an integrated design-build approach to their problem, using Computer-Aided Design programs, and Computer-Assisted Manufacturing methods. The result is a tractor that pulls aggressively, maneuvers well, is inexpensive to manufacture, and provides operator comfort and safety. A computer-controlled 11-speed auto-shifting transmission will give the team an edge in the upcoming competition.

Advisors: Dr. Gary Van Ee, P.E.
Mr. Richard Ledebuhr
