MAKE PLANS TO ATTEND AG EXPO 2002

By: Laura Probyn

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The calendar and the weather might both say that summer is still a long way off, but it's already time to start planning a visit to Ag Expo 2002, set for July 16-18 at Michigan State university (MSU).

This year's event will include a focus on tillage and tillage equipment and daily demonstrations of deep tillage and seedbed tillage tools. The sheep dog trials will return to this year's expo, with daily demonstrations on the main exhibition site. There will also be demonstrations straight out of agriculture's history courtesy of the Michigan Steam Engine & Threshers and Tillers International.

"This will be the best opportunity that producers will have to see a line-up of the new and coming products from across the industry," said Tim Harrigan, Ag Expo director. "Our emphasis will be on the different tillage equipment and options, but whether it's planting, harvest, spraying or general maintenance and farmstead needs, you'll find it at this show." The event will feature commercial farm equipment from throughout the Midwest and several Canadian provinces on the 35-acre main exhibition site and the 40-acre field demonstration area.

Ag Expo will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 16 and 17 (Tuesday and Wednesday) and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 18. All Ag Expo events and parking at Farm Lane and Mt. Hope Road are free.

MSU educators -- from agronomists and agricultural engineers to foresters, veterinarians, animal scientists and others -- will staff exhibits on the main site. They will be on hand to discuss their work and share information on various aspects of farm business management and production.
