May / June, 2002 TILLAGE DEMONSTRATIONS SET FOR AG EXPO 2002 Tillage is important for managing crop residue and preventing soil compaction and generally improving soil health in any field crop system. Farmers can explore the latest innovations in tillage equipment and see that equipment in action during Ag Expo, July 16-18 at Michigan State University (MSU). "The objectives of our demonstrations are to show the range of equipment available for deep, primary and seedbed tillage, and strip-tillage. We want growers to understand how decisions regarding equipment component selection and use influence soil shatter and residue cover and create a comfortable environment for the seed," says Tim Harrigan, Ag Expo director. The demonstrations will include equipment from such manufacturers as Brillion, Kongskilde, Sunflower, Aer-Way, Blu-Jet, Brent/Unverferth, Phoenix, Norcan and others. The tillage demonstrations will take place from 10 a.m. to noon each day, with free buses running between the Ag Expo exhibition site and the demonstration site. Ag Expo features commercial farm equipment from throughout the Midwest and several Canadian provinces on the 35-acre main exhibition site and the 50-acre demonstration area. Ag Expo will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 16 and 17 (Tuesday and Wednesday) and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18. All Ag Expo events and parking at Farm Lane and Mt. Hope Road are free.
