MSU Biosystems Engineers Go to Washington

By: Dr. Bradley Marks

On March 6th, Bradley Marks (Associate Professor of Biosystems Engineering) and Adam Watkins (Ph.D. Fellow in Biosystems Engineering) were in Washington, D.C., representing the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station at the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges' (NASULGC) Exhibition and Reception on Capitol Hill. The event was held to communicate the broad range of research, education, and extension activities being carried out at universities across the country. The list of invitees included all members of congress and appropriate aides. With an overall theme of "Food and Health", Marks' display was entitled "SAFE MEAT PRODUCTS via multidisciplinary research, education, and outreach". Attendees had a chance to "play" with the controls of a simulated oven and observe the effects on bacterial lethality. Marks and Watkins visited with a number of congressional delegates and numerous aides, representing our core programs in food safety.
