BAE Receives Grants to Fund the Anaerobic Digestion Research and Education Center!

Congratulations to Sudeshna Pal

Sudeshna Pal Sudeshna Pal, (second from left) doctoral candidate in BAE was the third place winner of the College of Engineering Fitch H. Beach Award for Outstanding Graduate Research. Her research focuses on the development of an electrically active magnetic biosensor targeting Bacillus anthracis spores. This work is critical to current needs in homeland security (biodefense).

BAE Student Awarded
National Science Foundation Fellowship
gail Gail Bornhorst, Biosystems Engineering senior is the recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellowship. Her award was announced in March, 2008. This is the 4th prestigious NSF fellowship that Biosystems Engineering majors have received in the past 5 years. A total of fifteen NSF Graduate Fellowships have been awarded to MSU Engineering graduates during that period. That translates into BE students receiving 27% of the NSF Fellowships awarded to MSU Engineering graduates since 2003. Approximately 1,100 awards are granted annually. The award awards carry a $30,000 stipend for 12-month tenures plus a cost-of education allowance of $10,500 per tenure year. (Read the press release.)
