LEGO Robotics to Wireless Integrated Microsystems for Advance Programer

Who? Students in 5th - 8th grade
When? June 23 -24, 2008, 8am – 4pm
What? Designed to start where the beginning program ends and go into more detail about programming and building with emphasis on First LEGO League (FLL) competition.  Students will continue to explore various engineering fields, focus on problem identification, team-building, communication, problem-solving, programming and competition using the NXT Robotics Invention System.

 


Additional Information: LEGO Robotics to WIMS Program is a two day commuter program that meets from 8am – 4pm, Monday - Tuesday.

Who is eligible:   Beginning Lego Robotics or Participation in FLL league or Familiar with NXT Robotic programming

Grandparents University

What? The MSU Grandparents University is a program for grandparents and grandchildren (ages 8-12) to come together for a 3-day educational experience while spending time together on the MSU campus. Participants enjoy the college experience of living in the dorms, attending classes across campus and sampling the many highlights of MSU.

Spartan Future Engineers Open House

Who? High school juniors, seniors, transfer prospective students and their families; school groups and teachers are also welcome.

When? October 20, 2007, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
What? Meet with professors, tour laboratories and see scientific interactive demonstrations, learn about majors and careers, talk with current MSU students, view undergraduate research posters and projects, and much more. Also the Dean Udpa and Undergraduate Studies Associate Dean Tom Wolff, Engineering, Admissions Office, Study Abroad, Financial Aid Office, Advising Office, Guided Learning Center, the Engineering Library, Division of Engineering Computing Services, Women In Engineering, and the Diversity Programs Office will be making scheduled presentations throughout the day. Future Engineers Open House?
MSU’s
College of Engineering Future Engineers Open House is an opportunity for high school juniors, and seniors and transfer prospective students in and around the state of Michigan to experience the latest that MSU has to offer in engineering.

What types of events will be at Future Engineers Open House?
A variety of interesting and exciting events can be found at the Open House. Meet with professors, tour laboratories and see scientific demonstrations, learn about majors and careers, talk with current MSU students, and much more. Also the Dean and Associate Dean of Engineering, Admissions Office, Study Abroad, Financial Aid Office, Advising Office, Guided Learning Center, the Engineering Library, Division of Engineering Computing Services, Women In Engineering, and the Diversity Programs Office will be making scheduled presentations throughout the day.

Do I have to register?
Registration is required and easy to do! You will receive an immediate confirmation of your reservation via email. You will receive parking information and other pertinent details about specific the week before the Open House.

There is no charge.

Groups of high school juniors and seniors are welcome to attend. Future Engineers Open House activities are geared to this level of students, so attendance by younger student groups is not recommended. Women in Engineering (WIE)

Who? Students who are currently in 9th - 11th grade
When? July 20- 25, 2008
What? Designed to encourage high school women to consider engineering as a career option. Students will be exposed to the majors in Biosystem Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Engineering Sciences, and Computer Science and Engineering. Special sessions are also presented on women in engineering issues, diversity, cooperative education, and international education opportunities. The students also visit a manufacturing facility in Michigan. The program concludes with a closing ceremony involving students, their parents, participating faculty, student assistants and academic staff.

High School Engineering Institute (HSEI)

Who? About 120 selected high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors
When? July 13 - 18, 2008
What?

HSEI has run for over 40 years. Students spend a week exploring engineering through lecture, lab and design sessions run by faculty and student assistants from our various programs. Special sessions are also presented on diversity, cooperative education, and international education opportunities. The students also visit a manufacturing facility in Michigan. The program concludes with a cookout involving students, their parents, participating faculty, student assistants and academic staff.

- Encourage teenage boys and girls to study engineering.

- Focus on cutting edge technology.

- Design and implement research-based experiential WIMS curriculum.

- Provide an academically rigorous schedule to maximize living and learning experiences.

- Attend to students’ academic, professional, and personal needs in a safe learning environment.

- Create pre-college research opportunities.

- Provide a climate that ensures young people are supported to reach their fullest potential.

The weekend of July 4, WIMS for Teens participants will be sent home.  Parents/guardians should plan on picking up their teens on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 6:00 PM.  Participants are to check back into the residential hall between 5 and 7 pm on Sunday, July 6, 2008.  There will be  no exceptions.

Participation Fee:  $100.  Motorola and NSF funded WIMS ERC made is possible to keep the cost for the participants at $100 - this includes instruction fees, room and board and an activity fee.
