Resources
True to our mission, the Engineering Undergraduate
Studies Office strives to connect students to resources while
assisting them in clarifying educational, career, and life
goals. Through these efforts we aspire to enhance the educational
experience of students. Below we outline resources we
hope you will find useful, ranging
from academics, tutoring and academic assistance, to financial assistance.
Confidential Message System
The
College of Engineering will utilize the Confidential Message
Center to send important messages regarding such topics as college
admission, academic warning letters, etc.. If
you receive a message from the Confidential Message Center
it will have a subject line that reads, "Office of the Registrar Confidential Message" and
you will be directed to a sign-in page. Sign in with your MSUNetID
and password to retrieve your message. You may also retrieve
your messages at http://www.reg.msu.edu/StuForms/StuConfidential.asp.
You are given the option to delete messages
from view,
but you're not deleting messages from the system. You
can retrieve past messages by clicking on the "View
All Messages"
button.
Career Services & Placement
Your career doesn't start when you leave school -- you
can begin exploring your options and planning your future
now. Jennifer Jennings Career Service's Engineering Representative.
Jennifer may be found in 1340 Engineering Building, or
contacted via email at jjenning@msu.edu. Use
the Career
Services Network to make an appointment
with Jennifer or explore your options, from determining
your interests and deciding on a major to finding job-related
or volunteer experience in your field.
The Career Services Network, with the assistance of our Employer Partners, has created the 12
Essentials for Success
Guide ( pdf) to let you know about expectations in the workplace and how they are connected to college experiences.
Information is also available on the Graduating
Engineer
web site.
The Center for Spartan Engineering
The College of Engineering at Michigan State University
is pleased to announce the opening of

The Center was created to assist our students in obtaining their career goals through: Research Experience, Cooperative Education, Internships, Service Learning, and post-graduation employment.
Diversity Programs
The Diversity Programs
Office (DPO) provides personal and academic support for underrepresented
minority engineering students. With resources provided such
as the Guided
Learning Center and tutoring, DPO is your link to academic
success in MSU engineering!
FE/PE Exam Information
Many engineering students find it a necessity to go beyond
receiving their degree, and find they must take the Fundamentals
of Engineering (FE) and the Principles and Practice of Engineering
(PE) exams to become a Professional Engineer. Find out more
information about the exams, exam study materials, and register
for the exams at the National
Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying's web
site.

Learning Resources Center
The Learning Resources
Center is an academic support center for all MSU students
that provides course specific tutoring help; seminars in critical
reading and math; workshops in test taking skills, note taking
strategies, learning styles, general study skills and time
management.
MentorNet
The E-Mentoring Network for Diversity in Engineering and
Science. MentorNet is the award-winning nonprofit e-mentoring
network that addresses the retention and success of those
in engineering, science and mathematics, particularly but
not exclusively women and other underrepresented groups.
MentorNet provides highly motivated protégés
from many of the world's top colleges and universities with
positive, one-on-one, email-based mentoring relationships
with mentors from industry and academics. In addition, the
MentorNet Community provides opportunities to connect with
others from around the world who are interested in diversifying

Study
Abroad Program
It is the mission of the Engineering
Study Abroad program to develop new educational programs
which will educate our students for their engineering careers
through strong partnerships between our university and universities
abroad. Check the Engineering
Study Abroad program web page for more information.
Tutoring
Engineering students take a variety of classes from departments
all across campus. You may find yourself struggling with that
English lit, chemistry or entomology course, and wonder where
you can get some assistance! Here are some ideas on where
to look for help:
- Go to your TA or
professor's office hours. If your questions are specific
and you just need to fill in some details, ask your instructor
for help during his or her office hours.
- Visit the Guided
Learning Center (GLC), preferably by the third week
of the semester. The GLC is a resource for students provided
by the Diversity Programs
Office. The Academic Assistance program is designed
to include supplemental instruction for the more demanding
and challenging courses in the engineering curriculum.
- Try out the departmental
tutoring rooms. For some of your classes, there are tutoring
rooms run by the department. Check your syllabus for information,
or ask your instructor for details.
- Check out the Learning
Resource Center's Tutoring Program.
- Hire a tutor. Departments
will usually have a listing of available tutors for hire
at an hourly rate. Contact your instructor or the department
for information.
The Writing Center
MSU's Writing Center
provides support and resources for all your writing needs!
Contact them when you have a paper due in class and need help
formulating your thesis, constructing your outline, or wordsmithing
your final product.
