Subir Biswas is a Professor and the founding director of Networked Embedded and Wireless Systems (NeEWS) laboratory at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Michigan State University. Dr. Biswas earned his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, UK, and his B.S. and M.S. at Jadavpur University in Calcutta, India. Prior to joining MSU in 2003, Dr. Biswas was the Principal Architect at Tellium Optical Systems, where he was a lead researcher on optical network restoration modeling, fault tolerant network design, network management, and advanced application development. Before Tellium, he worked at NEC Research Institute in Princeton, New Jersey, where his work was focused on wireless ATM, IP multicast and IP traffic engineering problems. Prior to that, Dr. Biswas worked in AT&T Laboratories, Cambridge, where his primary responsibilities were to design and develop mobility signaling and MAC layer protocols for wireless ATM networks. Dr. Biswas has more than 10 years of research experience in networking industry and has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles. Among other distinctions, papers from his group won best paper awards in COMSNETS 2011, ICICS 2011, and GLOBECOM 2009. He is also a co-inventor of 6 U.S. patents (granted and pending). His current research interests include the broad area of wireless data networking, low-power network protocols, application-specific sensor networks, and wireless network security. He, along with his co-investigators, raised over $3.5 Million research funding. Research in Dr. Biswas' laboratory has been funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Michigan Department of Transportation (M-DoT), Michigan Animal and Agriculture Initiative (MAAI), Sustainable Michigan Endowed Project (SMEP), and Michigan State University (MSU). Subir is a senior member of IEEE and a fellow of Cambridge Philosophical Society. He currently serves as Associate Editors of the IEEE Transactions on Intelligenet Transportation System, ACM/Springer Journal of Wireless Networks, Elsevier Journal of Ad Hoc Networks, and Inderscience Journal of Communication Networks and Distributed Systems. Currently, he also serves as the Associate Chair for Research in the MSU ECE department. MSU ECE Department College of Engineering Contact Biswas Home
