Chapter 1 homework
- pg 31, homework problem 1.3, clarification. line 2, 'Calculate the T and P' should be 'Calculate the P'. (7/1/08).
- p32 problem 1.8, Second sentence. Delete "molar", i.e., "What is the volume of ..."(1/26/01)
- p32, homework problem 1.9, the temperature should be 293K instead of 293oC. (7/29/04)
- p33 problem 1.15, part (d), temperature should be 180 (7/1/99).
- p33 problem 1.17, change "for water" to "for one kg of water".(3/3/00)

- p43, 2nd line, change 2974 to 2973, third line change -914 to

- p54, first equation line, 2/3 of the way down the page, at the end of the

Chapter 2 homework
- p78, problem P2.3 and P2.4, the answers are for a gas furnace.(7/24/01)
- p78, problem P2.8, remove the minus sign on the mass flow term (7/24/01)
- p79, problem P2.16, (a) remove minus sign on answer, (b) ANS. -0.305 (7/24/01)
- pg 80, homework problem 2.2, clarification. line 2, 'liquid at 25oC' should be 'liquid at 25oC and 1 bar' (7/1/08)
- p85, problem 2.28, wording isn't clear enough. The depressurization of the tank from 2 bar to 1.5 bar occurs slowly so that the tank is isothermal, and after movement of the piston/cylinder starts, the piston/cylinder is isothermal and isobaric at 1.5 bar.(9/22/99)

- pg 109, eq. 3.33, remove the minus sign from WS,net, since the heat transfer terms are based on the reservoirs (2/4/06).
- pg 109, third line from the bottom of the page, the first equality should be DS = integral(dQ/T). (3/8/05)
- p126, 6th line of example 3.12, Sdot(gen) should be underlined.(3/3/00)
- p127, Example 3.13, lines 2-5 of solution, the words "S-balance" follow

- p 130 problem P3.1 (a), for answer, replace M with N. (7/24/01)

- p 132 problem 3.7, parts (a) and (b), the problem should ask for the intensive entopy change. (7/1/99)
- p 136 problem 3.29, part (b), change "a "reversible" heat exchanger" to "a reversible heat transfer device.(3/3/00)
Chapter 4 body
- p148, Figure 4.6, three more pumps should be in the feedwater line between
the existing pump and the boiler, one for each pressure rise.(5/26/99)
- p159, Example 4.8, third (ig) equation is missing minus,

- pg 160 - Example 4.9. The first equation of the solution is for combustion, so the subscript on the work term should be 'comb' instead of 'comp'. Also, signs were inadvertently reversed in transitioning from the second to third equality in the line above eq 4.9. Therefore, the signs should be changed on the third and fourth equality of the line above eq. 4.9. Within the curly brakets for eq. 4.9, the second term sign should be changed, or alternatively, the terms in the denominator should be reversed. An updated pdf of the page is available; click here. Chapter 5 body
- p 175, The fact that eqn 5.4 can be generalized to non-reversible processes
isn't made clear. The wording surrounding the equation has been improved.
